Arkansas Adoption Paper Pushing 101

Because we know paperwork is what gets you out of bed in the morning.

Our state loves the paperwork. Most states love the paperwork. So, if you’re interested in arkansas adoption, you have a little bit of paper pushing to do. But don’t fret, a great many have made it through unscathed. Here is what you can expect to fill out:

  • If you go through an agency, you will have some forms to fill out with them
  • Your adoption profile which is shown to expectant birth mothers
  • Home study forms

As for legal paperwork, some attorneys are different but if you work through our office you will be asked to complete:

  • The Petition to adoption (which starts the legal adoption process)
  • A Statement of all the expenses of the adoption

(Both of these will be filed in your Arkansas adoption along with your home study, the child’s social and medical history, your background checks and a report from the putative father’s registry).

The final papers your attorney will help you create and they are the most important to you.

  • The adoption decree (this finalizes your adoption)
  •  A birth certificate which names you as the parents

Paper pushing isn’t for the faint of heart. Make sure to stretch beforehand.

Our best advice when it comes to paperwork is to make it a priority. A common saying around the office is “sometimes a baby comes early”. Don’t let paperwork get in the way.

When you’re done, don’t hold back on high fives and some celebratory ice cream.
